FAQs

Why should I choose an accredited school?

In today's uncertain legislative atmosphere, enrolling with an accredited private school ensures you that the school has met specific academic and administrative standards. The FCCPSA is one of only 14 accrediting organizations recognized by the Florida Department of Education. Veritas Academy’s FCCPSA accreditation eases the transfer and acceptance of academic records from our school to other schools, colleges, and scholarship organizations.

What is a "transfer student"?
Any student over first grade who is applying to Veritas Academy for the first time, regardless of how the records were kept previously (another school covering, public school,  private school, or registered with the county as a homeschooler).

Why do you not accept transfer students who will be high school seniors?
As a school covering, it is our responsibility to both advise high schoolers on meeting the state and college credit requirements and to validate the credits and grades earned. To accept a student who has just one year left of high school could place us in the difficult position of trying to "catch up" the student on credits needed or, in the worst case, having to refuse or delay a diploma until credit requirements are met. We would also be validating grades/credits for a student who was not under our covering for 3/4 of his or her high school years.

Why do you charge additional fees for 10th and 11th grade transfer students?
As a school covering, we are validating the credits and grades earned, especially for high school students. If a student has already entered high school, we must go over the student's previous records (transcripts, samples of work, report cards, curriculum and reading lists, etc.) and confirm that the state requirements and our requirements have been met. This is a lengthy procedure that adds to our standard application processing time.

Why do you offer annual testing only through 10th grade?
Students in 11th and 12th grade are expected to take either the SAT or ACT at least once each year. We use those scores to meet our annual testing requirements.

Why must I submit a copy of my child's birth certificate and immunization records?
These items are required both by the state and by our accrediting agency to operate a legal private school in the state of Florida.

What if I choose not to immunize my child?
If you have chosen not to immunize your child, you must submit the blue "Religious Exemption" form which can be obtained from your county Health Department.
